Outdoor cooking can be fun, varying and tasty. Leave the vacuum dried food at home, unless you are walking far and want to carry real light, and bring some spices and flavors instead. A good tip is to start with the heavier food and thus get rid of the weight in the start of the trek and to pre-mix the spices in a small jar at home. A tasty substitute for the vacuum dried food is to dry your own, everything from bolognaise to vegetable mixes.
